With aircraft operations accounting for 98% of total Scope 3 emissions, industry attention has understandably focused on reducing in-flight carbon footprint. Yet the horizon will shift towards the manufacturing process emissions.. Discover how additive manufacturing offers a dual solution—dramatically reducing both operating and supply chain carbon emissions.

In this presentation, AeroDelft will share how a student team can drive innovation in the aviation industry. We’ll highlight our achievements, our goals, and the unique challenges we face as students building a hydrogen-powered aircraft. Our team manager will offer a behind-the-scenes look at how we overcome these challenges and turn ambitious ideas into real-world progress.

Sora Aviation is developing a 30-seat eVTOL aircraft, fully powered by batteries with zero carbon emission during flights. The talk will explain how using larger 30-seat eVTOL buses instead of 4-seat eVTOL taxis has multiple benefits in improving sustainability, by reducing overall energy consumption, land usage, noise, and cost per passenger.

As the UK charts its path toward Net Zero, the Climate Change Committee’s (CCC) Seventh Carbon Budget (2038-2042) provides a critical framework for government and industry action. With electrification leading emissions reduction efforts across sectors, aviation remains one of the UK’s highest emitting industries by 2040, alongside agriculture.

This keynote will break down the CCC’s Balanced Pathway for aviation, outlining the key measures needed to align the sector with the UK’s Net Zero commitments. From demand management and efficiency improvements to the role of sustainable aviation fuels and emerging zero-emission technologies, the session will explore the projected impact of each pathway component.

Crucially, the address will examine the policy and market mechanisms required to ensure the cost of decarbonisation is reflected in the price of flying, while also highlighting the uncertainties in aviation demand and sector-wide transformation. With international frameworks such  as ICAO and CORSIA under scrutiny, this keynote will set the stage for discussions on the UK’s leadership role in global aviation decarbonisation and the urgent need for strengthened policies, non-CO2 emissions targets, and robust contingency planning.

Fathom Consulting is delighted to preview findings from our groundbreaking new research on the economics of decarbonising European aviation, developed through a year-long project for the European Climate Foundation.

Our model-driven study identifies the costs and benefits of decarbonising aviation using different types of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) and hydrogen-powered zero-emission flight (ZEF) at different points in time, different levels of decarbonisation and under different scenarios. Moreover, we consider these findings in the context of the UK and Europe’s wider policy agenda, such as boosting economic competitiveness and enhancing energy security.

Industry leaders and financial experts will explore how aviation stakeholders can align with the evolving requirements of sustainable finance to unlock the capital needed for a successful transition. With COP29 setting ambitious new climate finance goals, the discussion will highlight how the industry can meet these expectations through radical collaboration and innovative approaches. The panel will tackle key questions: What do financial institutions need to see to support investments in aviation’s decarbonisation? How can aviation projects meet sustainability benchmarks and gain access to the $300 billion in climate finance pledged by 2035? Get a unique viewpoint on practical insights into navigating finance frameworks, mainstreaming climate investments, and ensuring aviation is positioned to thrive in a low-carbon economy.
