Matthew has been Director of Carbon Strategy / Sustainability at Heathrow for the past 15 years. He led the team that developed Heathrow’s award-winning sustainability leadership strategy, “Connecting People & Planet,” which focuses on achieving net zero aviation and making Heathrow a great place to live. Matthew is a Board member of Sustainable Aviation, a coalition of UK airlines, airports, and manufacturers dedicated to setting and achieving industry-wide sustainability goals and has chaired the group twice, from 2011 – 13 and 2022 – 24. In early 2020, Sustainable Aviation became the first national aviation group to commit to net zero emissions by 2050. He is a Commissioner with the Energy Transitions Commission, a member of the UK Government’s Jet Zero Taskforce Expert Group and a member of the CBI’s Net Zero Committee. He has represented global airports in the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s climate change working group.
